Farmall 460 vs Farmall Super MD

Verdict: Farmall 460 vs Farmall Super MD

The Farmall 460 and the Farmall Super MD are both tractors — here is how they stack up on the figures that matter. Farmall 460 leads on rated power with 49 hp against 48 hp. Farmall Super MD is the lighter machine (5,725 kg vs 5,835 kg), which helps on soft ground and transport, while the heavier model carries more ballast for traction-limited draft work. Farmall 460 is the newer design (1958 vs 1952). In short: choose the Farmall 460 for outright pulling power, or the Farmall Super MD if a tighter budget and lighter footprint matter more. The Torque Amplifier (TA) allows a clutchless shift-on-the-move underspeed for any gear. With the TA lever forward, the TA is disengaged and the transmission is in direct drive (DD) mode. To engage the TA, the lever should be pulled quickly and smoothly to the rear. The TA on the 460 will free-wheel, so it should be disengaged when going downhill or towing the tractor to start it.Reference
The Torque Amplifier first became available in 1954 on the Super MD-TA.Reference
